Journal prompts for writers and coaches

‘The Telegraph’ newspaper ran an article yesterday about how the gesture of writing in the air to ask for the bill is becoming obsolete as the bill is not written any more.

Similarly tapping your wrist to ask for the time is also becoming obsolete as more people look for the time on their phone rather than wear a wrist watch.

This made me think about notes on phones and gratitude apps and how they are also replacing the old-fashioned notion of writing a diary/journal.

Journaling can be a great way to tune into yourself rather than only keeping your focus on the outside world.

Our phones and devices have a tendency to take us away from our truth so journaling on paper with a favourite pen can be a welcome change.

Here are some simple journal prompts to get you started. Remember this isn’t homework. No-one is going to be marking your spelling or grammar.

Start gently and go only as far into journaling waters as you feel you’re able to right now. Always seek additional support if you need it.

The weather right now…

The last storm…

What I think about Tuesdays…

What friendship means right now…

Things I love in this room…

My favourite food and why it’s my favourite…

A time when I had to wait…

A time when I was early…

An unexpected win…

I dedicate the novel/book I will write one day to…

My ideal day starts when…

How I feel about Autumn/Fall…

Things I wish I’d know about…

How I feel about my phone…

What would I rather do than scroll?

or

Why I love to continue scrolling..

What kindness means to me?

What (insert one of your values) means to me…

What I’m learning about…

What I want to learn about…

My undiscovered talents…

Evening peace

Morning hope

Where I’d like to allow myself to be more mindful…

Where I’d like to allow myself to be more playful…

Ways I could be kinder to myself…

And because I coach coaches…

My ideal coaching client…

My ideal coaching schedule…

My ideal coaching space…

Coaching resources I’d love to explore…

Marketing activities that feel good to me…

My tiny next step for my coaching practice is…

How I want a coaching session to feel…
